Back to Hannibal

Location: Hannibal, Missouri

Date: July 8-9, 2006

This year’s summer vacation turned out to be a tour of some of New England’s finest haunted locations, so what better place to start our journey north than Hannibal, MO?

We stopped in to see our friend Sarah again at the Robard’s Mansion, but sadly she didn’t seem as glad to see us. We spent two nights in the haunted inn, but nothing very paranormal happened there. At one point I heard a whimpering while in the shower, but who knows… Mitch could have been having a bad dream.

We toured a local mansion, the Rockliffe, while we were there too. It is supposedly very haunted; in fact, they offer great prizes to anyone who can survive one night there at Halloween. Nothing happened while we were there, but an orb-like shape showed up in one of the few pictures I was able to take.

A few interesting things did happen around town however.

We walked over to an empty lot on our first night to show Mitch where one of the town’s most renowned murders took place. Since then the land has been cursed- every house put back on the property has burned down. A sunken in portion of the lot is said to be home to high, unexplainable energy readings now, and as far as we’re concerned that’s true. The second we began using our divining rods in the area, they went crazy. They crossed instantly and continued doing so for all four of us.

After that we walked down the street to the town’s old, downtown jail. It is now closed for safety reasons, but when it was still open, even as a museum, everyone called it haunted.

Apparently the spirits haven’t evacuated yet; even on the sidewalk outside we were getting signs of energy. All around the tower of the jail our rods crossed and moved signifying some kind of energy was present. As the rods moved, something inside began to move as well – the blinds in one of the lower tower windows. They swayed back and forth for quite a while, and try as we might we could not find an explanation. No air conditioners or heating units were running, no wind outside, nothing. So why were blinds inside a sealed up, condemned building swaying? We have no clue.
